If you have medical conditions then you will find a list of medical referees on the back of the medical form that will be sent to you by ScotSAC. This medical will cost around £30.00, though if the Doctor insists on a chest x-ray it will be a bit more. If you do have a medical condition (e.g. Asthma) it is better to speak to the Branch Diving Officer to find out if a condition is OK for diving, however your own GP would have to carry out the medical as they would have your full medical history. Cost of this is unknown as different practices charge different amounts. ScotSAC also recognises the 'Self Certification' medical, although we recommend you get a proper medical done initially. If you ever plan to dive abroad on holiday, some countries do not recognise the 'Self Certificate' medical. It also gives piece of mind to have a proper medical. Most medical referees are divers themselves. They can give valuable advice on medical issues and the fitness levels required for the sport. |
