What training will I have to do?

The training is not too taxing provided that you are fairly fit and able. You will start off with a simple swimming test, which is designed to show your instructor how confident you are in the water. Once completed you are taught the necessary skills to allow you to snorkel safely, the snorkel training is also a stepping stone to the aqualung training. Once your snorkelling training has been completed, you would need to become a member of ScotSAC and Peeblesshire SAC to continue. This gives you insurance cover for using a high-pressure aqualung and for when you start diving. Training is carried out in Peebles Pool and the Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh and during the summer or when you're comfortable and competent with the equipment in open water (the sea).

There is also a series of lectures and a fairly easy test at the end of the lectures. These lectures normally take place before the pool session and are designed to inform new members about the theory of the sport and help to make you a better and safer diver.
Don't worry about these lectures as lecture notes are supplied and you do not have to be a Rocket Scientist to pass the test.
