Scapa Flow must be the ultimate dive site for Scuba divers from around the world. Where else can you get such a high concentration of wrecks, many in relatively good condition considering the time they have been submerged and the salvaging operations since they were scuttled on 21st June 1919?

We started planning the trip back in 2001. The idea grew and grew until we had gathered together a group of divers, mainly from Peeblesshire, Musselburgh and Pentland Sub-Aqua clubs. We dived with Scapa Flow Diving Centre which is owned by Dave and Eileen Wombwell. Our group was divided between two boats, the Shalder and the Crusader.

The trip went well and despite some unfriendly weather, we managed to dive some of the famous wrecks in Scapa, including the Cruisers, Brummer, Koln, Dresden, Karlsruhe, the battleship Kronprinz Weilhelm, the submarine UB116, the V83, the Rose Valley, the F2 and YC21 (the barge).

The Italian Chapel was visited by everyone on the trip. We all have our own memories of our visits.

The artwork inside the Italian chapel built by Italian prisoners of war duing WW2. The detail in the artwork is amazing and well worth a visit.

A work of art.

Several of our lunchtime surface intervals were spent at Lyness. There are many remnants of the events of the two wars on display.
